The cities of Brazoria and West Columbia have announced that the sewer systems are now functional and the mandatory evacuation status has been lifted.
We have also received good news on expected road openings. Conditions are improving rapidly, but we understand there are real issues that remain and we will do everything possible to help in those areas. Given the good news, we are modifying our return to service slightly.
Our plans give time for city utilities to function, time for families to return from mandatory evacuations, hopefully time for those still not able to reach their homes because of high water to do so, and time to get all campuses and classrooms ready after a long break. We definitely understand that some will have major work to do and encourage all to make decisions in the best interest of their family. Each campus is ready to work with those in need.
CBISD will resume normal operations for students and staff on Wednesday, September 13th. All staff should plan to report for a work-day on Tuesday, September 12th.
Every CBISD student will be eligible for FREE meals during the month of September.
Numerous pledges and offers for assistance have been made from groups outside of CBISD. Each campus will be reaching out to identify needs. All families are encouraged to reach out to their campus to help us identify needs.
CBISD transportation will drive all bus routes before service begins to check for road safety. Any required changes in operations will be communicated.
Columbia football will be hosting Wharton for a varsity only football scrimmage on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at Griggs Field.
As a community we work together to help our neighbor. CBISD Child Nutrition is offering free breakfast and lunch to EVERYONE in the surrounding area (do not have to be a student or a family member of a student).
